PHE Group is delivering a major lighting and power upgrade at Tumut 1 Power Station, boosting safety, visibility, and operational efficiency in one of Snowy Hydro’s most critical underground assets.

As part of its Electrical Safety Program, Snowy Hydro engaged PHE to upgrade the lighting and power systems at Tumut 1 Power Station. The objective: address legacy safety risks, improve visibility, and meet updated compliance standards.

Being delivered under a cost-plus model, PHE is managing full design and installation of lighting infrastructure, power distribution and automated controls, while maintaining system continuity.

Our longstanding relationship with Snowy Hydro and proven track record on similar projects positioned PHE as the trusted delivery partner.

Project Scope

  • Delivering the full design and electrical engineering scope for the upgrade of lighting and control systems at Tumut 1 Power Station – an active underground facility with critical operations running live.
  • Decommissioned obsolete lighting and distribution assets, replacing them with new emergency and general lighting, power outlets, distribution boards and RCDs.
  • Installed and commissioned DALI-enabled smart controls, including lux verification, circuit energisation, and staged installation methodologies to avoid disruption to plant performance or staff safety.
  • Upgraded all lighting to energy-efficient fittings with emergency compliance features, improving lux coverage, site safety, and long-term maintenance efficiency.
  • Recycled fluorescent tubes and sodium lamps and disposed of hazardous materials through EPA-approved waste channels.
