50 years of successful outcomes

What began as a family business in regional New South Wales has grown into a national operation, still grounded in the same values of care, connection, and commitment. That’s the PHE way.

PHE Group is a story of deliberate growth, grounded in the values of a family business and shaped by the people who carry those values forward.

From its beginnings in Tumut, New South Wales, the company has evolved into a multi-division business with a truly national footprint. Our teams are embedded across metropolitan centres, regional towns and some of the most remote communities in Australia. This reach ensures we remain close to the industries, people and places we serve.

Through the strategic expansion of our branches and capabilities, we have extended our reach while preserving the strong foundations of a family business. Growth for us has always been about more than scale. It is about building strong relationships, expanding technical capacity and supporting clients wherever their projects take them.

Our people remain central to that growth, from long-serving leaders to emerging apprentices, united by a shared commitment to safety, accountability and meaningful outcomes. With every new branch, capability and community connection, we strengthen our ability to deliver complex national projects while maintaining the accessibility and accountability of a regional partner.

Every project is an opportunity to create lasting impact, supporting clients and strengthen the regions in which we work.

Growth

Expansion has brought reach, capability, and confidence. PHE Group has evolved into a national operator, uniting specialist divisions to deliver fully integrated solutions. This period of growth shaped the business we are today – explore our journey below.

Foundations
1970s

Pat Hogan founded Pat Hogan Electrics in Tumut, New South Wales in 1974. He delivered electrical and air conditioning solutions for residential and minor commercial projects, and also worked on the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme. These early years shaped a business defined by skill, determination, and a long-term outlook.

Expanding north
1980s

Operations expanded into Queensland with the establishment of a Gympie base, marking our first step toward a broader geographic footprint. Early Queensland projects included the Laminex Toolara facility, opening new opportunities in the timber and paper industries – setting the stage for future growth.

1990s

Pat Hogan Electrics rebrands to PHE, and takes its expertise to the global stage, manufacturing, delivering, and commissioning electrical switchboards and control panels for German engineering leader Siempelkamp – supporting projects across the USA, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia and New Zealand.

Industrial strength
2000s

Working on the Visy Pulp & Paper Tumut Mill marked a milestone in scale, complexity, and significance for PHE, showcasing our industrial capability and beginning a decades-long partnership with Visy. We remain embedded on site today, providing ongoing maintenance and support. In 2007, we commenced major projects for Snowy Hydro Limited, and in 2008 a multi-year, $130M contract at Cadia Mine cemented our capability in large-scale, complex mining operations.

Strategic alliance established
2010s

This decade saw continued geographic and strategic expansion. A Bathurst office opened in 2010, followed by a Brisbane base at Eagle Farm in 2017. In 2018, PHE became an alliance partner of the Underground Construction Alliance (UCA), strengthening our contribution to multidisciplinary, large-scale underground mining programs across Australia.

Company diversification
2020s

In 2021, PHE Group established five specialist divisions – Power & Infrastructure, Mining, High Voltage, Engineering, and Logistics – giving clients a clear line of sight to our capability and one accountable partner across the project lifecycle. National growth followed with new offices in Adelaide (2022), Perth (2023), Launceston (2024), and a new Brisbane head office (2024). Major delivery under UCA at Tanami Expansion 2 demonstrated our capability in remote mining projects. In 2025, PHE celebrated 50 years with a refreshed brand identity, setting the platform for the next chapter of growth and innovation.
