Health & Safety

We prioritise safety at every level, creating work environments where people are protected, supported and empowered to speak up. Safe work, safe home.

Our approach

Safety is our first priority

At PHE Group, safety is more than compliance. It’s our first priority and a core value embedded in our Blueprint, upheld by ISO 45001:2018 certification and reinforced through visible, values-driven leadership.

We have built a reputation for delivering E&I works safely in some of Australia’s most challenging project environments. Our safety systems are accredited, our people are experienced, and our performance speaks for itself – 4,124,772 LTI-free hours worked across the Group.

Our approach to safety isn’t static – we continuously refine our systems in response to emerging risks, workforce feedback, and industry best practice. These improvements reinforce the maturity of our systems and our ability to evolve alongside client expectations.

We empower our teams with the tools, knowledge and support to work safely – from up-to-date training and education, to structured planning that embeds safety controls from the outset.

Our leaders set the tone. They lead conversations on-site, participate in audits and inspections, and model the behaviours we expect of our workforce. Open dialogue is encouraged at all levels, ensuring everyone feels informed, equipped and involved.

Safety is where performance begins – the measure that protects people, secures delivery, and strengthens the trust that makes us partners in progress.

Over four million labour hours, zero LTIs

PHE Group recently celebrated a major milestone: over four million hours worked without a single loss-time injury. A monumental milestone – a moment to acknowledge what makes it possible.

At PHE Group, safety is our first priority. It’s embedded in the way we think, plan, and deliver: across every site, every crew, and every division. Our culture is built on accountability, respect, and a commitment to doing the job properly. It’s shaped daily by the people who show up and live it.

What matters most is the culture it reflects, and the commitment behind it:

  • A team of more than 400 people, working across some of the country’s most high-risk environments, choosing to do things the right way

  • Clients who share our values and support a safety-first approach to delivery

  • Systems that are well beyond compliance, built to enable clear decision-making and real-time visibility across our sites

  • And a mindset that sees safety not as a barrier to productivity, but as its foundation

“For us, safety starts with culture. It’s built in the daily decision to stop, to speak up, to plan properly. That’s what builds trust, and that’s what earns the right to keep doing the work.” – Mark Hogan, Executive Chairman, PHE Group

This milestone belongs to everyone – from apprentices to project leads, from site managers to support staff. It’s the result of thousands of decisions: to pause, to assess risk, and then execute with discipline. To every person who’s helped shape this culture, and to the clients who continue to walk this path with us – BHP, Newmont Australia, Snowy Hydro, Visy, Senex Energy, Lion, Clarke Energy, Santos Ltd and Voith Hydro – thank you. Your trust and partnership keep raising the standard.
