Critical electrical packages delivered in support of Australia’s largest glass recycling facility – reinforcing a trusted 20-year partnership between PHE Group and Visy.

Visy’s new supersite in Yatala is set to become Australia’s most advanced glass recycling and manufacturing plant – consolidating the company’s national sustainability ambitions through a high-volume cullet processing and bottling operation.

PHE was engaged to deliver two major workstreams – a full 11kV high voltage reticulation package and low voltage infrastructure for the site’s new batch plant. Building on a trusted relationship with Visy that spans more than two decades, PHE provided end-to-end delivery across electrical, civil, structural and coordination services.

While ongoing, the project involves managing multiple concurrent works – including early energisation of the cullet plant – enabling Visy to generate early revenue while broader construction activities continued. With complex site interfaces, fast-tracked deadlines, and high stakeholder visibility, the program demanded flexible planning, disciplined execution, and technical depth across all delivery fronts.

Project Scope

  • Electrical and civil delivery of two interdependent infrastructure packages – high voltage reticulation and batch plant LV works.
  • Installation of more than 35 kilometres of high voltage cabling.
  • Design, supply and installation of a new 11kV main switchroom.
  • Completed over 400 HV terminations and provided energisation support, including full SAT of primary and secondary systems.
  • Low voltage electrical works for the new batch plant building.
  • Civil works, including excavation, conduit installation and backfill.
  • Design and installation of structural footings, slabs, and 20 metre-long strip footings to support major switchroom infrastructure.
  • Crane coordination and heavy lift management for installation of preassembled switchrooms.
  • End-to-end site coordination and interface control with other contractors.

Outcomes and Benefits

  • Early energisation of cullet plant will enable Visy to begin exporting product and generating revenue ahead of full site completion.
  • Zero incidents or injuries recorded across more than 10,000 hours worked to date – reflecting a proactive safety culture recognised by the client.
  • Engineering team resolved a major site constraint by identifying a concealed 15-metre embankment beneath the proposed switchroom location, avoiding costly redesign and structural rework.
  • Enabled real-time stakeholder engagement through integrated 3D modelling, survey data, and service layout visualisation.
  • Strengthened project sequencing by aligning delivery with the client’s staged construction strategy.
  • Simplified project management for Visy through single-source responsibility, reducing risk and complexity across delivery.
  • Strengthened a 20-year relationship with Visy – reinforcing trust through consistent performance, responsiveness, and multidisciplinary capability
