Some projects test capability; others reveal it. A critical contribution to one of Australia's most remote and complex underground expansions – delivered in alliance with Underground Construction Alliance (UCA).

A key operation within Newmont Australia's portfolio, Tanami Mine is located in one of the country’s most isolated regions: the Tanami Desert, approximately 540 kilometres west of Alice Springs.

TE2 is a major underground infrastructure project by Newmont, designed to extend the life and uplift the efficiency of its Tanami gold mine. Works include the development of a 1.46-kilometre-deep production shaft, along with a crush-and-hoist system that will replace long-haul underground trucking with a modern, surface-based transfer operation.

PHE Group is delivering the full electrical and instrumentation package as part of UCA, working in close coordination with alliance partners and subcontractors. The project’s depth, remoteness and active operational environment demand high-performance delivery – with strict interface control, careful staging, and a shared commitment to safety and quality.

Project Scope

  • Electrical and instrumentation (E&I) works delivered across underground shaft infrastructure and surface support facilities.
  • Electrical and control reticulation for the winder building, headframe, and associated surface systems.
  • Electrical and control reticulation across all shaft plat levels, including the midshaft, personnel, skip loading, and shaft bottom locations.
  • General shaft E&I systems integrated into plat-level infrastructure.
  • Reticulation for key ore handling assets including the crusher, skip loading conveyor, and transfer conveyors.
  • Dewatering infrastructure including trommel station and pump station E&I works.
  • Installation of electrical substations for the personnel plat, crusher, and transfer conveyors.
  • Installation of high-voltage and low-voltage substations at the skip loading level.
  • Underground 11kV power distribution and site-wide construction power management.
  • E&I support for raiseboring operations and temporary power for the headframe.
